Company Overview

BAAC Construction is actively hiring an experienced Shallow Utility Supervisor to support civil and underground utility construction projects throughout Alberta. This role is responsible for overseeing daily field operations, coordinating subcontractors and crews, organizing site activities, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule. The ideal candidate has strong experience in shallow utility construction including pipe installation, curb stops, valves, utility tie-ins, and civil construction operations.

We are looking for a hands-on leader with strong organizational skills and working knowledge of drilling operations and utility installation workflows. This individual must be comfortable managing fast-paced construction environments while maintaining production, safety, and communication standards.


Compensation and Benefits

Compensation: $38-46 CAD per hour

What You'll Do

  • Supervise daily shallow utility and civil construction operations
  • Coordinate subcontractors, field crews, materials, and equipment
  • Oversee installation of water services, curb stops, valves and valve boxes, shallow underground utility systems, pipe installation, and utility tie-ins
  • Support and coordinate drilling operations when required
  • Organize daily site activities to maintain schedules and production targets
  • Read and interpret civil drawings, utility layouts, and site plans
  • Conduct FLRAs, toolbox talks, and daily safety meetings
  • Ensure work is completed safely and to project specifications
  • Work closely with project managers, inspectors, operators, and clients
  • Identify and resolve field conflicts and underground utility issues
  • Maintain site documentation, production tracking, and communication logs
  • Mentor and support field crews to maintain strong performance standards

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 6 to 12 months, success in this role will look like:

  • Crews and subcontractors are well coordinated and daily work is organized to meet production targets.
  • Shallow utility installations and related civil work are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
  • Drilling support, materials, equipment, and site activities are aligned with project schedules and field demands.
  • Field issues and underground conflicts are identified early and resolved effectively.
  • Project managers and operations leaders see you as a dependable site leader who can keep work moving in fast-paced construction environments.

What We're Looking For


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in civil or shallow utility construction
  • Previous supervisory experience in construction or utility projects
  • Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating crews
  • Strong knowledge of pipe installation
  • Strong knowledge of valve and curb stop installation
  • Strong knowledge of shallow utility infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction operations
  • Strong knowledge of drilling operations and workflow coordination
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to read and understand civil drawings and utility plans
  • Experience working in fast-paced construction environments
  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Equipment operating experience
  • Ground Disturbance Level II
  • CSTS 2020
  • Standard First Aid
  • Class 1 or Class 3 license considered an asset
  • Experience working around existing underground utilities and congested corridors
