Labourer - Telecommunications Construction

BAAC Construction Inc.
CA$25.00 - CA$30.00 per hour

Job Title

Labourer - Telecommunications Construction

Company Overview

BAAC Construction is a growing infrastructure contractor supporting telecommunications and underground utility projects in Calgary and surrounding areas. Our crews work on critical field projects that require safe execution, strong production habits, and a reliable team on the ground. This role is important to keeping urban construction sites operating efficiently and safely every day.

The Opportunity

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced labourer who wants steady local work and the chance to build toward Lead Hand or Operator responsibilities over time. You will work on active telecom and underground utility projects where field awareness, equipment experience, and safe execution matter. For someone who takes pride in productive job sites and quality field work, this is a role with clear growth potential.

What You'll Do

  • Support telecommunications and underground utility crews with conduit tie-ins, service box (SB) and service vault (SV) installations, and other core field activities.
  • Perform backfilling, compaction, and restoration work to help ensure jobs are completed safely and to specification.
  • Assist with excavation, trenching, core hole drilling, and general site labour on active urban construction projects.
  • Load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, and equipment to keep crews productive and sites running efficiently.
  • Operate skid steers, backhoes, and other site equipment safely and effectively in support of daily production goals.
  • Drive larger trucks and company vehicles as needed and complete daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks.
  • Help maintain organized job sites, support traffic control and pedestrian safety measures, and follow hazard assessments, safe work procedures, and company safety standards.
  • Work closely with Supervisors, Foremen, and crew members to meet production targets while maintaining a strong safety-first approach.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first 6 to 12 months, success in this role will look like:

  • You become a dependable field contributor who can support telecom and underground utility work with minimal supervision.
  • Crews can rely on you to complete backfill, conduit, restoration, and site support tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Equipment is operated responsibly, daily inspections are completed consistently, and vehicles and machinery are looked after properly.
  • Urban job sites remain organized, safe, and productive with strong attention to traffic, pedestrians, and existing utilities.
  • Supervisors see you as someone who can take on increasing responsibility and grow toward Lead Hand or Operator opportunities.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone with previous labourer experience in telecom, civil, or underground construction. You should have strong experience operating skid steer and backhoe equipment, along with hands-on experience with conduit tie-ins, vault installations, and backfill procedures. You should be comfortable working in active urban environments with traffic, congestion, and existing utilities.

A valid driver's licence with a clean abstract is required. The strongest candidates will bring a strong work ethic, reliability, a safety-first attitude, and the ability to contribute to a production-driven crew environment. Ground disturbance certification, traffic control training, equipment tickets, and experience working around fibre optic infrastructure would all be considered assets.
