Hydrovac Operator
Hydrovac Operator
Company Overview
BAAC Construction is a growing civil and telecom construction company operating across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. We specialize in safe, efficient, non-destructive excavation and underground utility work for a range of infrastructure projects.
Our teams are known for their strong safety culture, professionalism in the field, and commitment to doing the job right the first time. As our project volume grows, we are adding experienced operators who want consistent work, high standards, and opportunities to advance.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Hydrovac Operator based in Calgary to help deliver critical civil and utility projects throughout Western Canada. In this role, you will take ownership of your Hydrovac unit, work on diverse job sites, and play a key part in protecting underground infrastructure while keeping crews and the public safe.
This is a full-time, field-based role with steady work, strong compensation, benefits, overtime opportunities, and clear room for advancement into lead operator or supervisory positions for those who demonstrate skill, reliability, and leadership.
What You'll Do
- Operate Hydrovac units safely and efficiently to perform non-destructive excavation and expose underground utilities on a variety of civil and telecom projects.
- Travel to job sites across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia to complete site setup, excavation tasks, daylighting, trenching, and debris removal to project and client specifications.
- Conduct thorough daily inspections, pre-trip checks, and routine maintenance on trucks and equipment to keep your unit in top working condition and minimize downtime.
- Follow all company and client safety procedures, policies, and protocols, actively contributing to a strong, safety-first culture on every site.
- Work closely with foremen and crew members to plan each dig, protect underground infrastructure, and support additional civil construction activities as required.
What Success Looks Like
- Within your first few months, you are operating your Hydrovac unit independently, consistently meeting or exceeding daily production targets while maintaining an excellent safety record.
- Job sites consistently report accurate, clean, and damage-free excavation work, with zero strikes to underground utilities and high client satisfaction.
- Your truck and equipment pass inspections with minimal unplanned downtime due to your proactive maintenance, detailed logbooks, and thorough pre- and post-trip inspections.
- You become a trusted go-to operator who can be counted on for out-of-town rotations, changing site conditions, and stepping up to support or mentor other team members as needed.
What We're Looking For
- At least 2 years of hands-on Hydrovac operating experience in civil, utility, or related construction environments.
- A valid Class 1 or 3 driver’s license with airbrake endorsement and a clean driver’s abstract.
- A strong safety mindset, with certifications such as H2S Alive, First Aid, and Ground Disturbance considered strong assets.
- Calgary-based, physically fit, comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, and willing to travel for extended out-of-town assignments (camp accommodations provided).
Compensation and Benefits
- CA$36.00 - CA$45.00 per hour, based on experience.
- Dental care, extended health care, vision care, life insurance, disability insurance, and company events.
- Full-time employment with benefits, overtime opportunities, and clear room for advancement into lead and supervisory roles.
- Travel-based field work with camp accommodations provided for extended out-of-town assignments.
